DROITWICH Spa recovered from their opening day defeat with a thrilling 5-3 victory against Bilston Town to secure their first league win of the season.

Alex Dugmore and Josh Hurdman both found the net twice with Charlie Tilley also on target in an eight-goal classic at the King George Playing Fields.

The result means Droitwich sit seventh in the Midland Football League Division One table after two matches.

And the Saltmen made the perfect start on nine minutes as Dugmore’s trademark header from a corner put the home side ahead.

However, Bilston were level just two minutes later when Sam Yankson finished from close range after Dom Rogerson kept out the striker’s initial effort.

And after Rogerson made a number of crucial saves, Spa reclaimed the lead on 36 minutes when Dugmore powered home another cross to score an unlikely brace.

Bilston equalised for a second time shortly after as Yankson also scored his second of the game, firing home a loose ball after Droitwich failed to properly clear their lines.

However, the Saltmen went into the break ahead as Tilley unleashed a sensational 25-yard dipping volley that went in off the underside of the crossbar, leaving the Bilston goalkeeper with no chance.

Droitwich extended their lead on the hour mark when Hurdman cut inside from the left and fired a powerful shot into the top corner from 20-yards out.

The youngster doubled his tally for the game on 77 minutes with a simple finish from close range after Perry Moos pounced on a mistake at the back to tee up the striker.

There was still time for Bilston to add some respectability to the scoreline as substitute Soms Sibanda drilled a shot into the bottom corner to complete the scoring.

Droitwich are next in action at home to Wednesfield on Saturday, August 12 with kick-off at 3pm at the King George Playing Fields.
