DROITWICH Spa earned a hard-fought 3-0 victory against 10-man Corsham Town to stretch their unbeaten run to five matches.
The Saltmen took an early lead courtesy of Reiss Taylor-Randle’s goal before visiting goalkeeper Ryan Clarke saw red for the visitors after the break at the King George Playing Fields.
Further goals from substitute Nathan Binner and James Lemon sealed another victory for Andy Crowther’s side.
And the result means Droitwich sit second in the Hellenic League Premier Division table, three points behind leaders Roman Glass St George.
Less than 60 seconds after kick-off, Corsham’s Raphael Oppong collided with the advertising boards and sustained a serious injury which led to a delay of around 25 minutes.
Oppong received treatment on the pitch and was later taken to hospital in an ambulance.
Spa struggled to find their rhythm following the long delay as Pele Kouisseoue went close on a number of occasions for Corsham.
However, Droitwich broke the deadlock on 15 minutes when Taylor-Randle latched onto a ball over the top and chipped the Corsham goalkeeper to put Spa ahead.
And a couple of last-ditch tackles from Ben Tilbury ensured Droitwich took a narrow one-goal lead into the break.
However, Corsham stopper Clarke received a straight red card just before the hour mark after he brought down Alex Dugmore with the Droitwich man clean through on goal.
That meant Corsham forward Neikell Plummer went in goal for the visitors for the remaining half-hour with his first action to hold Taylor-Randle’s effort.
Spa eventually doubled their lead on 71 minutes when Binner applied the final touch to Joe Hurdman’s pass following some pinball in the Corsham penalty area.
And the Saltmen made sure of the points two minutes from time as Lemon found the net after good work from Binner down the right.
Droitwich are next in action against league leaders Roman Glass St George on Saturday, September 20 with kick-off at 3pm at Kingy’s.
