DROITWICH Spa eased to a 3-0 win against Ludlow Town to stay clear at the top of the Hellenic League Division One table.

Quickfire goals from Alex Dugmore and Josh Hurdman put Spa in command at the break before Charlie Tilley completed the scoring late on at the King George Playing Fields.

The result means Droitwich lead the Hellenic League Division One table by five points.

Spa broke the deadlock on 16 minutes when Dugmore headed in Matt Fusco’s perfect cross after the latter exchanged passes with Jack Brighton.

And the Saltmen doubled their lead less than a minute later as Hurdman beat the offside trap and finished well past Zach Venables.

Spa had chances to put the game to bed only to find Venables in fine form between the sticks for Ludlow.

The home side almost extended their lead at the start of the second half as Hurdman forced Venables into a fine save when one-on-one.

Venables then kept out Nathan Binner’s free-kick before denying substitute Danny Barnes twice in quick succession.

Andy Crowther handed first team debuts to development squad players Joe Hurdman and Liam Livesey from the bench in the second period.

And Tilley eventually sealed the points on 84 minutes when he reacted quickest to turn home a loose ball after Venables saved Dugmore’s initial header.

Spa goalkeeper Dom Rogerson preserved the home side’s clean sheet late on when he produced an excellent save from point-blank range to push Kieran Dovey’s effort over the bar.

Droitwich are next in action against Redditch Borough in the Wiseman Lighting Floodlit Cup on Tuesday, October 15 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Kingy’s.
