DROITWICH Spa were held to a 2-2 at AFC Bridgnorth as a late penalty denied the Saltmen a first away win of the season.

Connor Collins scored a second-half brace to complete an impressive turnaround at Crown Meadow after Luke Morris broke the deadlock for Bridgnorth.

However, Mark Danks’s penalty 10 minutes from time denied Spa the points.

Bridgnorth made a strong start as Matt Dean went close following a fine run before Alex Dugmore’s near post header went narrowly wide at the other end.

The home side then hit the crossbar as Charlie Swingwood tried his luck before Spa goalkeeper Joel Chadwick denied Morris with his feet.

And Bridgnorth eventually took the lead on 42 minutes when the ball fell kindly to Morris who produced a neat finish into the bottom corner with Spa high up the pitch.

However, the Saltmen were level just three minutes after the break as Collins outmuscled his marker to latch onto a through ball and stabbed an effort into the top corner.

Both teams missed gilt-edged chances to take the lead before Charlie Tilley won a penalty for Spa and Collins made no mistake from the resulting spot kick on 75 minutes to put the visitors ahead.

However, Bridgnorth equalised just five minutes later as Danks scored a penalty of his own, sending Chadwick the wrong way after Lewis Phillips committed a foul in the area.

Droitwich are next in action away at Paget Rangers on Saturday, August 19 with kick-off at 3pm at the Central Ground.
