DROITWICH Spa suffered a heavy 6-0 home defeat against Slimbridge who replaced the Saltmen at the top of the table in the process.

Andy Crowther’s side saw their four-game winning run come to an abrupt end at the King George Playing Fields.

The result means the Saltmen sit fourth in the Hellenic League Premier Division table.

Slimbridge broke the deadlock on 17 minutes when Jack Smith finished past Dominic Hill from Charlie Matthews’ pass.

And Smith doubled the away side’s lead 10 minutes later with his second goal of the game to send the visitors into the break with a two-goal lead.

Slimbridge struck again three minutes after half time as Jack Smith, a different Jack Smith to the player who scored the opening two goals, headed in Leighton Blacker’s cross.

Droitwich won a penalty on 65 minutes only to see the spot kick saved by Slimbridge goalkeeper Stephen Sarkodie.

Spa then lost Cory Rudd to the sin bin before Smith completed his hat-trick on 75 minutes as he curled a shot into the net from 25-yards out.

Slimbridge made it five on 80 minutes as Raiyan Ahmed saw his effort from distance deflect into the net via the aid of the woodwork.

And Blacker completed the scoring on 86 minutes when he tapped home from close range from Ryan Ponting’s header back across goal.

Droitwich are next in action against Highworth Town on Saturday, August 23 with kick-off at 3pm at The Elms.
