DROITWICH Spa surrendered a half-time lead after conceding four late goals in a 4-1 defeat away at Highgate United in the third round of the League Cup.
Spa took an early lead courtesy of Josh Hurdman’s eighth minute strike only for Highgate to score four goals in the final 20 minutes at The Coppice.
Highgate play one level above the Saltmen in the Midland Football League Premier division where they sit third in the table, six points off the top with three games in-hand.
Droitwich broke the deadlock on eight minutes when Hurdman fired in the opening goal of the game as a young Spa side held their own to take a narrow lead into the break.
However, Highgate eventually drew level on 70 minutes as Ryan Harkin hauled the home side back into the contest.
And Highgate’s Connor Mooney then scored a remarkable 12-minute hat-trick to stun the Saltmen as Spa suffered a third round exit from the competition.
Droitwich are next in action away at Smethwick Rangers on Saturday, December 2 with kick-off at 3pm at Church Road.
