LATE goals from James Lemon and Alex Dugmore helped league leaders Drotiwich Spa to a 3-1 victory against Chipping Sodbury Town.

Lemon put Spa ahead on 82 minutes before Dugmore sealed the points at the death after Josh Hurdman opened the scoring at the King George Playing Fields.

The result means Droitwich sit six points clear at the top of the Hellenic League Division One table.

With Jay Sauntson, Cory Rudd, Matt Williams and Sam Carey all ruled out through injury and unavailability, Spa’s top scorer Alex Dugmore partnered Joe Clayton at the back.

Droitwich made a fast start as Dugmore headed Hurdman’s corner narrowly wide of the target before Lemon saw his shot blocked by Tyrese Carter’s last-ditch sliding tackle.

Sodbury goalkeeper Teddy Maggs then kept out Hurdman’s dipping effort before he beat Charlie Tilley’s shot to safety.

Clayton went close to a first senior goal for Spa while Tilley also had a shot blocked as Sodbury put their bodies on the line to keep the game scoreless.

However, the Saltmen broke the deadlock on 18 minutes when Hurdman latched onto a through ball and touched the ball past a stranded Maggs before finishing into an empty net.

The visitors improved after the break as Spa goalkeeper Dom Rogerson parried Owen Bell’s speculative effort from distance.

Droitwich almost doubled their lead with Lemon just unable to direct substitute Danny Barnes’ cross on target after he slid in at the back post.

Sodbury equalised on the hour mark when Liam Towler beat Rogerson with a free-kick from 25-yards out at the near post.

The leveller sparked the home side into life as Dugmore somehow fired a loose ball the wrong side of the post before Maggs made a crucial save to deny Hurdman.

However, Spa eventually reclaimed the lead eight minutes from time as Lemon finished Hurdman’s inviting low cross at the back post.

And the home side made sure of the points in the final minute when Dugmore slid the ball under Maggs following a poor goal kick by the Town goalkeeper.

Droitwich are next in action against Tytherington Rocks on Saturday, November 23 with kick-off at 3pm at Hardwicke Playing Field.
