DROITWICH Spa moved top of the table with a hard-fought 2-1 win away at 10-man Lydney Town.

Goals from Reiss Taylor-Randle and Perry Moss put the visitors in command at the Lydney Recreation Ground.

Spa’s second goal came moments after former Football League striker Matt Green saw red for picking up two yellow cards in quick succession.

Saltmen stopper Dom Rogerson then saved a penalty before Michael Symons halved the deficit as Spa held on to secure a third straight win.

The result means Drotiwich sit top of the Hellenic League Premier Division table, two points clear of Roman Glass St George who have a game in-hand.

Lydney almost took the lead early on only for Rogerson to superbly tip Green’s close-range effort onto the post.

Spa hit the woodwork at the other end as Charlie Tilley’s header hit the post before Lydney blocked the follow-up behind for a corner.

And Binner then saw a header cleared of the line as Droitwich pushed for the game’s opening goal.

However, Spa broke the deadlock on 26 minutes when Taylor-Randle headed in Jack Brighton’s cross cross at the back post.

Lydney goalkeeper Alex Causon then held Brighton’s effort from distance before keeping out Binner’s free-kick from the edge of the penalty area.

Spa took a narrow one-goal into the second period only for veteran striker Green to see red for the home side moments after the break following a discussion with the referee.

And Moss doubled Droitwich’s lead on 48 minutes with a cross-shot which deceived Lydney goalkeeper Causon.

Lydney won a penalty on the hour mark after Tilley fouled Morgan Ewing in the box.

However, Rogerson superbly kept out O’Rien Reid’s tame spot kick diving to his right.

The home side eventually reduced the deficit on 75 minutes when substitute Symons finished on the rebound from close range after Rogerson kept out Ewing’s initial effort.

However, Spa held on to claim the points and move top of the table in the process.

Droitwich are next in action against Royal Wootton Bassett Town on Saturday, October 4 with kick-off at 3pm at the King George Playing Fields.
