PERRY Moss scored the winner as 10-man Droitwich Spa battled to a 1-0 home win against Clanfield 85.

Moss scored the game’s only goal on 31 minutes before Matt Jackson saw red for two yellow cards just seven minutes later at the King George Playing Fields.

The result means Droitwich remain five points clear at the top of the Hellenic League Division One table.

Clanfield went close early on as Charlie Trinder-Sage sent a header well over the crossbar from a corner in a game of few clear-cut chances.

However, Spa broke the deadlock just past the half-hour mark as Moss drilled a powerful effort into the bottom corner of the goal from the edge of the penalty area.

The home side then lost Jackson to a red card after he received a yellow card for kicking the ball away and was then booked for the same offence later in the first half.

Spa fiercely protested Jackson’s second yellow with Saltmen captain Jamie Sauntson sin-binned for his protests leaving the home side temporarily down to nine-men.

However, Andy Crowther’s side held firm to head into the break with a narrow lead.

Clanfield dominated possession after the break as Dom Rogerson made a smart save to deny Nathanael Robinson.

At the other end, Sam Carey and Moss both went close to extending Spa’s lead.

Clanfield almost drew level when Jordan Cavender hit the post from close range while Tyger Hall headed over in injury time and found himself in the sin bin at the death.

Droitwich are next in action against Bromsgrove Sporting on Tuesday, October 1 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the King George Playing Fields.
