DROITWICH Spa recorded their biggest ever win at step six with a resounding 8-1 home victory against AFC Bridgnorth.

Spa scored five first-half goals as Josh Hurdman opened the scoring before Cory Rudd netted a quickfire brace and James Lemon and Perry Moss both found the net.

Hurdman grabbed his second of the game after the break before substitutes Lucas Edmonds and Woody Hawkett struck on a remarkable afternoon at the King George Playing Fields.

And the result means Droitwich sit third in the Midland Football League Division One table, 12 points behind leaders Hinckley AFC with three games in-hand.

The Saltmen made a blistering start as Hurdman and Lemon both forced Bridgnorth goalkeeper Jake Breckell into early saves before Jordan Sale cleared another Lemon effort off the line.

And Hurdman then broke the deadlock on 12 minutes with a superb first time volley into the top corner to leave Breckell with no chance.

The home side doubled their lead eight minutes later as Rudd’s powerful low drive from 20-yards out flew into the bottom corner.

And Rudd struck again two minutes later with a header from close range before Lemon turned his marker and finished well from eight-yards out on 25 minutes to make it four.

Bridgnorth reduced the deficit on 38 minutes when captain Chris Sterling drew a foul in the box and picked himself up to score the resulting penalty.

However, Andy Crowther’s side restored their four-goal lead on 43 minutes as Moss tapped home from close range.

Hurdman doubled his tally for the game on 51 minutes with a header from two-yards out after Scott Braiden-Smith looped a header to the back post.

Substitute Edmonds then scored his first senior goal for the club on 65 minutes with a dink over the onrushing Breckell from the edge of the penalty area

And youngster Hawkett completed the scoring on 81 minutes with his first senior goal for Spa after impressing for the club’s under-18’s side this season.

Droitwich are next in action at home to leaders Hinckley AFC on Saturday, March 23 with kick-off at 3pm at Kingy’s.
