FOOTBALL - Droitwich Spa put six past Team Dudley to remain on course for title showdown

CONNOR BAKER scored a hat-trick of headers as Droitwich Spa romped to a 6-0 win against Team Dudley to remain on course for a title showdown on the final day of the season.

Baker’s first senior hat-trick, along with goals from Alex Dugmore, Luke Molloy and Haydn Morris, helped Spa on their way to an eighth consecutive victory in the league.

And the result means Spa trail West Midlands Regional League Division One leaders Gornal Athletic, who they play in their final league fixture, by four points with a game in hand with three matches left to play.

Despite an even start to the clash at Walshes Meadow, Dudley were made to pay for some poor finishing as Baker opened the scoring on 15 minutes with a header from close range.

And Baker soon had his second when he nodded into an empty net after unselfish play from Connor Collins who cushioned the ball back across goal into the former’s path.

The Saltmen put the game to bed before half time when Dugmore grabbed Spa’s third goal of the night to take a three-goal lead into the break.

And Droitwich picked up where they left off in the second period as Molloy put the hosts four goals to the good before Morris stabbed home to add Spa’s fifth goal of the game.

Andy Crowther’s side wasted a spate of chances to extend their lead before Baker completed his hat-trick with another header to move onto 11 goals for the season.

Droitwich are next in action away at Sikh Hunters on Saturday, April 30 with kick-off at 3pm at Long Lane Park.
