DROITWICH Spa returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory against FC Stratford in the third round of the Marsh Challenge Cup.

The returning Haydn Morris scored a late winner for the Saltmen after Sam Hurdman put the home side ahead at the King George Playing Fields.

And the victory brings an end to Spa’s three-game winless run in all competitions.

With the match referee stuck in traffic on the motorway, the game kicked-off after a 40-minute delay.

The two teams traded early chance before Hurdman opened his account for the season on 19 minutes with a clinical first-time finish from James Lemon’s pass.

However, lower-division Stratford equalised on 27 minutes as Dan Atkins headed in Dan Baldwin’s corner.

A torrential downpour early in the second half made conditions difficult for both sets of players.

Spa boss Andy Crowther introduced Morris from the bench just before the hour mark as he marked his returned to the club following his departure in 2023.

And the substitute enjoyed a fairytale return to the pitch when he popped up with the winning goal two minutes from time.

Spa will play either Tuffley Rovers or Eversley and California Reserves in the fourth round of the competition.

Droitwich are next in action against Pershore Town on Saturday, November 8 with kick-off at 3pm at the King George Playing Fields.
