DROITWICH Spa sit two points clear at the top of the table following a 3-1 victory at Cheltenham Saracens in midweek.

The Saltmen secured a fourth straight win thanks to goals from Perry Moss, Cory Rudd and Alex Dugmore at Petersfield Park.

And the result means Spa lead the Hellenic League Division One table by two points after four matches and are the only side to maintain a perfect start to the campaign.

The visitors almost made the perfect start when defender Jamie Sauntson headed narrowly over the crossbar at a corner.

Spa went close again on several occasions as Dugmore, Moss and Charlie Tilley all failed to make the most of promising situations with the latter seeing his effort cleared off the line.

However, Droitwich eventually broke the deadlock on 24 minutes as Moss finished well past the onrushing Daniel Brabham from James Lemon’s sublime outside of the foot through ball.

Spa goalkeeper Dom Rogerson then made an excellent save at the other end to keep out Stuart Midwinter’s low drive.

Andy Crowther’s side spurned a glorious chance to double their lead as Brabham denied Lemon from close range.

Cheltenham almost made Spa pay for those missed chances only for Midwinter’s shot from 10-yards out to come back off the post.

However, Droitwich soon doubled their lead as Rudd’s precise low effort from distance found the bottom corner from Nathan Binner’s lay-off.

The home side missed a golden chance to reduce the deficit soon after as Rogerson made an excellent stop to keep out Midwinter’s penalty who then blazed the follow-up over.

Spa sealed the points on 72 minutes when Dugmore latched onto Lemon’s pass and deftly touched the ball beyond Brabham via the aid of the post.

The visitors then saw Josh Hurdman’s effort deflect onto the woodwork before Cheltenham netted a late consolation when Alfie Taylor headed in with eight minutes left to play.

Droitwich are next in action against Carterton on Saturday, August 17 with kick-off at 3pm at the King George Playing Fields.
