DROITWICH Spa have announced their first new signing of 2024 with the addition of experienced defender Sam Carey.
The 30-year-old centre back has a wealth of experience at Step Five and further boosts Andy Crowther’s defensive options.
Carey made close to 300 appearances for former club Worcester Raiders, who he captained, and won two promotions with the now Hellenic League Premier side.
Spa boss Crowther said: “Sam is another player I have been chasing for a while and to get the transfer over the line is brilliant.
“Sam is a leader on and off the pitch and he will undoubtedly add more quality and experience to the current squad.
“I look forward to seeing Sam back in the Droitwich shirt and help us to push on.”
New signing Carey added: “I dual registered for Droitwich a few seasons ago to support the clubs’ heavy end-of-season schedule.
“That gave me a taste of what’s to come and contributed towards my decision in signing.
“I know the management team have high standards and I’m coming into an excellent squad.
“I’m excited to get back to playing football and help the team push for promotion.”
The defender has made 27 appearances for Raiders this campaign before injury put a halt to his season.
He previously played four games for Spa in the 2021/22 campaign after joining on dual registration.
