SAM Hurdman scored on his return from a lengthy injury as Droitwich Spa’s development side romped to an 8-0 win at Enville Athletic.
A seven-minute hat-trick from Joe Hurdman and Liam Livesey brace put Spa into a five-goal lead inside the first 20 minutes.
Hurdman scored his fourth goal before the break before Rohan Levy stretched the Saltmen’s lead in the second half.
And the returning S Hurdman completed the scoring after months out injured due to an ACL injury sustained in October 2023.
Recently-appointed development manager Dan Brierley said: “My first month in charge has been really enjoyable and we’ve managed to complete a couple of training sessions along with two wins from two games.
“The lads played some effective team stuff from the off which resulted in us racing into a five-nil lead inside 20 minutes. What was most pleasing was the group’s ability to keep control of the game in the second half despite the surface deteriorating.
“The group did everything they were asked to do from the off and their in-game management was superb.
“If we can continue to adapt and overcome our opposition we’re capable of having a successful season.
“It’s fantastic to see the return of Sam Hurdman after a long lay-off. He came off the bench to play 30 minutes.
“Sam also scored a comeback goal which myself and everyone at the club hopes will do him the world of good.
“We find ourselves in an exciting position chasing a league title. With everything to play for in this campaign, January sees us host first and second place at Kingy’s.”
Spa’s development team have the second best defensive record in the West Midlands Regional League Division One with five games in-hand on leaders Dudley and Kingswinford who they trail by 12 points.
Droitwich’s development side host second-placed PS Olympic on Saturday, January 4 with kick-off at 3pm at the King George Playing Fields.
