FOOTBALL - Saltmen back to winning ways against Bridgnorth

Droitwich Editorial 25th Aug, 2022   0

DROITWICH Spa returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory away at AFC Bridgnorth as the Saltmen’s fine start to the season continued.

Spa responded well to their first defeat of the season against Coton Green last weekend as early goals from Ollie Thompson and James Lemon proved decisive at Crown Meadow.

The result lifts the Saltmen up to fourth in the Midland Football League Division One table.

And Droitwich made a superb start when Thompson broke the deadlock on 11 minutes when he cut inside before drilling a powerful effort past Stephen Groome in the Bridgnorth goal.

The visitors had chances to extend their lead as Thompson flashed an effort wide before Lemon doubled Spa’s advantage on 23 minutes with a header from close range from the former’s cross.

Bridgnorth pulled a goal back on 78 minutes when substitute Harry Minifie finished well from close range but Spa held on to claim another impressive victory.

Droitwich are next in action at home to Stapenhill on Saturday, August 27 at the King George Playing Fields before hosting Coventry Copsewood on Monday, August 29.

Both matches kick-off at 3pm.
