DROITWICH Spa boosted their play-off hopes with an impressive 2-0 win against third-placed Hinckley AFC to cap off an excellent week for the club.

The Saltmen took the lead through Alex Dugmore’s first-half header before captain James Lemon settled the game with a cool finish in the second half at the King George Playing Fields.

And the result means Droitwich sit sixth in the Midland Football League Division One table, just five points behind Hinckley with two games in hand.

Spa made a quick start and spurned a glorious chance to take the lead on three minutes when Connor Collins was fouled in the box only for Hinckley goalkeeper Brandon Bache to save his tame spot kick.

After a couple of half-chances went begging, Luke Molloy came to Droitwich’s rescue at the other end when he cleared Jack Beasley’s goalbound header off the line.

And the Saltmen took the lead on 24 minutes when Dugmore headed in Molloy’s precise free-kick from close range to score his ninth league goal of the season.

Spa made a similarly impressive start to the second period as Bache denied both Perry Moss and Jack Brighton before Dugmore and Collins both saw headers go over the bar when well-placed.

And Droitwich eventually doubled their lead when Lemon beat the offside trap and kept his composure to finish past Roche via the aid off the left-hand post.

The Saltmen almost added a third goal when Collins’ headed against the crossbar as a fine defensive perofrmance endured Spa came away with a deserved three points.

Droitwich are next in action away at Wolverhampton Sporting on Tuesday, February 7 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Pride Park.
