FOOTBALL - Spa put five past Bustleholme in convincing win

CAPTAIN James Lemon scored twice as Droitwich Spa hammered Bustleholme 5-1 to maintain their promotion push in West Midlands Regional League Division One.

Haydn Morris opened the scoring before Lemon netted his first and Luke Molloy struck from the penalty spot to all but seal the win.

Lemon and Molloy both doubled their respective tallies in the second-half to complete a convincing win after Bustleholme had scored a consolation goal in between the two strikes.

The result means Droitwich remain 10 points behind leaders Gornal Athletic with two games in-hand after winning back-to-back league games.

Andy Crowther’s side looked imperious from the outset at Walshes Meadow and scored from their first meaningful attack when Molloy’s low cross from the left was tapped home by Morris from close range.

And Droitwich quickly doubled their lead when Lemon found space inside the penalty are before finishing past the Bustleholme keeper to put the home side in command.

Molloy almost found the net himself when he saw his looping effort acrobatically tipped over the crossbar before scoring from the penalty spot after Lemon had been fouled in the box.

Spa hit the woodwork early in the second period before Lemon netted his second of the game after some fine work from Cory Rudd.

However, Bustleholme scored a consolation goal from a corner delivered to the near post which left Spa keeper Matt Oliver with no chance.

But Droitwich would complete the win when a wild challenge on Lemon drew another penalty which Molloy duly converted to round off a fine afternoon’s work for Crowther’s men.

Droitwich are without a fixture next week and return to action against Redditch Borough on Saturday, November 27 in the WFA Saturday Cup quarter-finals with kick-off at 2pm at Mettis Sports and Social Club.
