GEORGE GRECH was star of the show for Droitwich Dolphins at the Gloucester Open after claiming six medals.

With eight members of the senior squad competing at the Open meeting last weekend, Grech put on a fantastic performance to come away with three gold and three silver medals while also swimming seven personal bests and achieving seven Midland qualifying times.

Other successes went to Ashleigh Turner who claimed personal bests in all her events, claiming one silver and one bronze medal along with three Midland qualifying times.

Elize Smith also swam all personal bests while achieving two Midland qualifying times.

The other team members who took part in the Gloucester Open were Matthew Daniels, Dan Kay, Anja Kristy, Alex Munro and Sophie Peart.

Head coach Chris Hadley said: “All the other members of the team swam fantastically well, with a total of twenty four personal bests swam out of twenty eight swims it was a great achievement for the swimmers.”

On Saturday evening, Droitwich Dolphins’ junior team competed in the first round of the Nuneaton League and did the swimming club proud.

After last year’s promotion to Division Two, the task was always going to be difficult – especially with a lot of swimmers away due to holidays – but they performed brilliantly to secure a fifth place position.

Harry Grech was the team’s only individual winner in the 11yrs-and-under-50m Backstroke while the Boys 11yrs-and-under team of Ben Chadwick, Rowan Dennett, Patrick Florendo, Grech and Will Hughes won both their Freestyle and Medley relays.

Second place successes went to Oliver McCullough in the 12yrs-and-under 50m Backstroke, Ruby Ingles in the nine-years 25m Butterfly and Lily Smith in the 11yrs-and-under 50m Freestyle.
