DROITWICH Spa Ladies returned to the summit of the West Midlands Regional League Division One (South) table after making it four wins out five with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Marston Green Ladies.
Spa went into the game on Sunday keen to make amends for a surprise home defeat to Stourbridge the previous week and made an excellent start.
They were positive in their approach play from the outset as with just 90 seconds on the clock, Charlotte Criddle struck the crossbar with an effort from outside the box.
The scores remained level for just another two minutes before Ellie Gerhold opened the scoring as she slid the ball past the advancing Marston keeper after latching on to Jenna Dedicoat’s excellent throughball.
Dedicoat was once again the provider in the 27th minute, this time putting the ball through to April Polden who finished with aplomb.
Spa looked comfortable going into the break with a 2-0 lead but just five minutes after the restart the hosts ensured a well-deserved win when Gerhold struck again following some excellent approach play from Polden.
Criddle then made it 4-0 with a powerful shot before Gerhold completed her third hat-trick of the campaign and tenth goal of the season in the 82nd minute.
After the game, Spa manager Ian Fry said: “Although I know we are capable of playing better than we did today, it was important that we put last week’s sub-standard performance behind us.
“The girls responded brilliantly and thoroughly deserved their victory. We’ve now scored 22 goals in our first five games and have kept four clean sheets.”
Spa travel to Evesham United Ladies on Sunday in the quarter-finals of the Worcestershire FA Sunday Cup (2pm KO).
