DROITWICH Spa suffered late heartbreak as early season front-runners Alvis Sporting struck in the dying seconds to snatch a 3-2 victory at the King George Playing Fields.
In a pulsating contest, Macaulay Finch’s equaliser set Droitwich up for a thrilling finale, but with time running out, the visitors countered and scored the winner.
The match ended how it started as both sides burst out of the blocks, with Alvis taking an early lead against the run of play.
As the first half wore on Droitwich created a couple of half chances, but with no end product, and Alvis made them pay for this after the break as they made it 2-0.
Despite being behind, Spa kept going and received a slice of luck when Alvis keeper failed to collect a tame Finch effort which ended up in the back of the net to reduce the arrears.
This seemed to give the hosts a boost and within 15 minutes found themselves level with another Finch strike.
With a big crowd behind them, Spa went for the winner, but they were foiled at the death when Sporting found the back post for an unchallenged header.
