Lemon nets six to put Spa on cloud nine

JAMES Lemon scored six as a rampant Droitwich Spa side claimed a memorable victory over Earlswood Town on Saturday.

The potent striker had a day to remember as he increased his tally to 20 goals this season thanks to his ‘double hat-trick’.

But it was Max Crisp who opened the scoring on the 16th minute with a fine individual effort. This opened the floodgates as Nick Seabourne and Lemon netted courtesy of fast-flowing passing moves.

Lemon then added another just before the interval as Spa moved into a commanding 4-0 lead.

The second half then turned out to be the Lemon show as the talented frontman completed his hat-trick before notching up two more.

Bradley Burgess also got on the scoresheet while Earlswood deservedly opened their account after missing a host of chances.

But it was Lemon’s day as his sixth goal came from the penalty spot on the stroke of full-time.

And speaking after the rout, joint-manager Wayne Oliver said he felt his side wasted numerous other opportunities which could have moved them into double figures.

“We tend to switch off in games like this giving the opposition a glimmer of hope and will have to concentrate fully this weekend when we are at home again against a much improved Knowle side,” he said.

“Our supporters have been superb turning out week after week to support us and we really appreciate it.

“We look forward to Saturdays game with a full squad available and will look to build upon the last few weeks.”

Meanwhile, Fairfield Villa remain in the bottom three in Midland Football League following a 2-1 defeat to Paget Rangers.

A brilliant volley from James Finn got the Bromsgrove side back on level terms after falling behind in the first half, but the hosts finished in the ascendancy and in the end they were unlucky not to have run out convincing winners.
