ELEANOR WARBURTON claimed gold for Kazoku-Kan Judo Club at the Midland Area Championships.

The Droitwich-based club took seven competitors to the championships which were held at the Erdington Academy in Birmingham where Eleanor showed great determination, focus and technique to finish top of the pile.

Eleanor’s brother Joshua gained silver in his category, going up against a much more experienced opponent than himself.

Jim Worsfold, a first timer in the competition scene and entering the Midland Area as a novice competitor, also managed to get a silver medal after soundly beating his first two opponents with a fantastic throw and hold down respectively.

Sian Evans grabbed bronze in her category after coming up against not only more experienced rivals, but also much taller.

She put in a fantastic effort to claim third while her brother Harry also came away with a bronze.

Felicity Warburton also picked up a bronze medal as she showed a willingness to succeed and won her first fight with a solid performance.

Elsewhere, Molly Charlwood completed the medal haul for Kazoku-Kan as she too won a bronze medal.

In her first competition since March last year, Molly put up a great fight to win her second contest by a throw/hold down combination.

Club instructor Rich Morrish said: “We are so proud of them all.

“To walk into the club’s first competition since we opened and have all seven students earn medals is a testament to their ability, dedication and effort they have put in over the last two months.

“Things can only improve from this point forward.”

Head Instructor Rob Alloway added: “This is a great result from the team, considering we only opened at the beginning of January.

“Everyone worked hard for these results.”

Kazoku-Kan train every Friday evening at Physique Fitness on the Berry Hill estate from 6.30pm until 8.30pm.
