Morris return boosts Bromsgrove

BROMSGROVE Sporting have received a boost after talented full back Daniel Morris turned down the chance to move to Alvechurch.

As The Standard reported last week, the Midland Football League Premier Division outfit made an approach to Bromsgrove to sign the 28-year-old.

However, Morris, who started for Sporting against Coventry Copeswood on Tuesday night, decided to remain at the Victoria Ground and help the Rouslers secure promotion from Midland Football League Division One.

Bromsgrove boss Paul Smith said he was “over the moon” to retain the defender’s services as he believed Morris, who he brought from Studley at the start of the season, would play an important part in the club’s future.

“It is a tremendous bit of news for us and just shows how far the club has come to be able to keep a player of his calibre out of the reaches of a higher level football club,” Smith said.

“Alvechurch made a very good offer and one that was worth seriously considering. He has gone away and had a think about it. He’s weighed up the pros and cons and we are delighted that he has come back and said he is going to stop with us.

“For me there is not a better full back in this league or the league above. The lad is quality and as often as we can get him on to the football field we will do.

“Apart from the free-kick, which we gave away against Copeswood, defensively we looked tremendous and he makes a massive difference to that, so we are over the moon to keep him.”

Smith added: “While I have been at the club, I think we have improved on and off the field as the players want to be part and parcel of what myself and the rest of the staff are doing here.

“Danny has made it clear to us that he is very happy here and it would take something very special offer-wise for him to go anywhere. He is now looking to kick on this year and next year and see what we can do.”
