A NEW darts league has been launched in Droitwich aimed at ‘bringing a breath of fresh air’ into pubs across the town.
Billy Eastbury set up the competition last month after noticing a number of pubs struggling to field teams strong enough to compete in the Droitwich Darts League.
David Webb, of the Star & Garter, was also part of the move and said the newly-created Droitwich Invitation Darts League has sparked more interest in the sport in the town.
“We decided to break away because we think darts is not just for good players,” Mr Webb said. “There are eight teams in the good league and there are eight teams in our league, but we are all about the same standard, so it has gone really well.
“It is bringing a breath of fresh air to darts as we are getting more players turning up in pubs now because they know they are not going to get beaten 8-0 or 9-0.
“Last week one of the games finished 4-3 and went to the final game. Everyone was cheering and it was really good to watch.”
Along with the Star & Garter, Copcut has also fielded two teams while the Three Masons, the Hop Pole, the Ring O Bells and the Westcroft Arms complete the sides competing.
Mr Webb added: “Anybody who wants to turn up and play, can. You don’t have to be very good darts, so just come along and sign up.”
