THE OPENING of new judo club in Droitwich Spa has been branded a ‘roaring success’ after more than 18 students showed up to train on the first night.

Kazoku-Kan Judo Club have seen their numbers grow throughout January under sensei Rob Alloway and instructor Richard Morrish who are proud of the students who show up each week.

Plans are in place to continue to take the club forward including their first hosted event in March.

Meanwhile, second dan Alloway competed at the Scottish Masters Open where he took part in four fights.

Despite putting in a strong performance he finished fourth overall but he was happy with the result after recovering from a bout of illness.

Alloway said: “It was a tough day at the Scottish Masters Open.

“There was no medal but my fitness proved itself to be back to normal, which I am proud about as I have only been able to do light training for the past three months due to illness.”

Elsewhere, Kazoku-Kan’s Eleanor Warburton attended the British Schools Regional Championships where she gained gold in a very strong performance in her category.

Warbuton won all of her fights with authority.

Morrish said: “This was a fantastic achievement and we are very proud of her, she represented her school and herself brilliantly.”
