Oliver angered by 'worst' Droitwich performance at Pershore

DROITWICH Spa joint-boss Wayne Oliver has slammed his players’ performance following their 2-1 defeat to Pershore Town over the weekend.

The Saltmen travelled to the 2020SolarPV King George V stadium on Saturday in high spirits after securing a comfortable 6-0 victory over Malvern Town Reserves the week before.

But despite taking the lead through Aston Gunter, goals from Jamie Clarke and Will Gayton ensured the Saltmen slumped to defeat.

Spa return to pre-season action on Monday when they travel to Littleton, hoping to right the wrong’s from Saturday’s defeat, before a host of training sessions in preparation for their Midland League Division Two opener at home to Coton Green on August 13.

Oliver said: “I was really disappointed with the performance. The first half was probably the worst I have seen Droitwich play since me and Mark Owen joined the club.

“We looked lethargic, tired and did not play as a team – it wasn’t normal. I don’t know if we showed arrogance rather than confidence but we’ve arranged another friendly to see if the players can bounce back.

“Our whole pre-season has been really pleasing which is probably why myself and Mark were so disappointed in the effort from the players on Saturday.

“We need a good start this season and hopefully we can do that once the league gets underway.”
