MATT Richards is chasing his first medal of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games tonight after qualifying for the men’s 200m freestyle final.
Richards finished second in his heat behind Australian Maximillian Giuliani by just 0.04 seconds to qualify for the semi-finals.
And the Droitwich swimmer qualified seventh fastest out of the two semi-finals which means he will start the final in lane one.
The 21-year-old finished fourth in his semi-final in a time of 1 minute 45.63 seconds and will race against fellow GB athlete Duncan Scott in the final.
The final takes place TONIGHT at 7.40pm live on BBC One.
Richards raced alongside Scott in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay earlier in the Games as Great Britain finished fifth in the final.
The Droitwich swimmer stepped into the quartet for the final in place of Alexander Cohoon.
However, the quartet of Richards, Jacob Whittle, Tom Dean and Scott were unable to secure a medal.
