Quartet arrive to boost Saltmen's ranks

Droitwich Editorial 4th Jul, 2019   0

THE SALTMEN have made their first signings of the summer, welcoming back midfielder James Ward and bringing in Alex Dugmore, Lewis Phillips and Omar Salih ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Ward, who returns to Droitwich Spa for a fourth spell following stints at Fairfield Villa and Barnt Green Spartak, enjoyed a season away from football last season, but is keen to add to his record of 41 goals in 71 appearances accumulated so far.

Meanwhile, Dugmore, who joins after three years with Fairfield Villa, racked up 80 appearances in yellow and red, helping Villa to a fifth-placed finish in Midland Football League Division Two.

Also joining him in making the move from Fairfield is Phillips, a left-back who has previously turned out for MFL Premier Division side Stourport Swifts and Bromyard Town in the WMRL Premier Division.

Salih, the latest signing, operates in midfield and also previously turned out for Fairfield, and signs after a year out of football last term.

The group bolster key areas in the side for Mark Owen, who has also managed to tie down the futures of 12 first-team players next season.

Key man Ben Tilbury – who added 20 goals and 11 assists last term, remains with the Saltmen, along with fellow midfielders Bradley Burgess, Max Crisp, Haydn Morris and Cory Rudd.

Goalkeeper Matt Oliver hopes to add to the 17 clean sheets kept last season, and looks to the likes of Matty Hunt, Mike Seeley, Jonathan Brooks and Josh Szikora-Warmington to provide defensive solidity in front of him.

Strikers Dan Cottrill and Jack Davies, who chipped in with 22 goals between them – scoring 12 and assisting ten, have also committed their futures to the club.
