BROMSGROVE Sporting consolidated their position in the top five with a ruthless display at Alvis Sporting on Tuesday night.

Aaron Daniel was the only man to beat Jack Hartropp in the first half as Alvis’ keeper produced a series of fine saves to keep his side in the game.

But he could do little to stop Reece Hewitt, Charlie Wilson, Danny Lennon in the second period as the Rouslers eased to victory and extended their unbeaten record to nine games.

Paul Smith’s men were buoyed by Ryan Mahon’s last gasp equaliser against league leaders Uttoxeter last Saturday, but they still took a while to get going.

Sporting dominating possession, though, and they got their reward on the 21st minute. After Will Tibbetts broke away up field, the ball was played to Daniels who rounded left back Oliver Basham and keeper Hartropp before firing a low shot into the corner of the net.

Bromsgrove almost doubled their advantage moments later as Sean Brain struck the upright, while Tibbetts also went close on the half hour mark as his 20-yarder bounced off the top of the bar.

The Coventry outfit also had their keeper to thank as Hartropp got down well to save Brain’s fizzing shot.

As the match approached its final 25 minutes, Alvis were in the game as they trailed by a solitary goal, but they were dealt a blow when Hewitt’s long range effort found the top corner.

Hartropp had kept the hosts in the contest, but it was his fumble which gifted Bromsgrove a third as he failed to hold on to Daniel’s shot and substitute Wilson was on hand to stab the ball home.

This all but sealed victory for the visitors, but Sporting remained on the front foot and rounded off the win with a superb goal from Lennon. The midfielder, who was returning after a five-week injury lay off, received Mahon’s shot corner before his flighted shot flew over the defence and into the back of the net.
