DROITWICH RFC lost on the road for the first time since the opening weekend of the season following a 27-7 defeat away at high-flying Alcester.

The visitors scored their only try courtesy of Dylan Pollock in the first half as Alcester took the game away from Droitwich after the break at Kings Coughton.

And the result means Droitwich sit eighth in the Counties 1 Midlands West (South) table.

Alcester opened the scoring with their first attack as Owen Binns finished smartly after the ball went through several pairs of hands.

And Ed Gough then kicked a penalty from in front of the posts to extend the home side’s lead.

Droitwich responded with their first and only try of the game as Pollock dotted down and Henry Dodwell kicked the conversion.

However, Oscar Holland crossed for Alcester and Gough converted to leave the visitors with work to do after the break.

And Alcester struck again after the interval when Dwayne Cruickshank scored the home side’s third try.

A powerful run from Jack Green saw him fend off several defenders before touching down under the posts for Alcester’s bonus point try.

Tempers boiled over in the closing stages with Alcester’s Sam Lear sent to the sin-bin although the visitors were unable to make the extra man count in the remaining minutes.

Droitwich are next in action against Barkers Butts on Saturday, October 26 with kick-off at 3pm at Hanbury Road.
