DROITWICH Men’s 1sts entered the Christmas break on a high with a 2-1 victory over Bournville.
The result leaves them second in Midlands T3 South West One, two points behind league leaders University of Birmingham.
Spa started the game confidently and their first goal came from a move down the right-hand side where Andrew Rollason drove along the baseline before his pullback was pounced on by Lee Wakelam to hammer home.
This seemed to wake Bournville up and the visitors were back on level terms from a penalty corner on the stroke of half-time.
After the break, Droitwich had plenty of possession and came close to going ahead when a shot wrong-footed the Bournville keeper only for a defender to hack the ball off the line.
Wakelam had other presentable opportunities in the circle but was unable to make those count.
However, Spa’s pressure eventually told five minutes from time when David Hindle’s shot deflected over the visiting keeper for 2-1.
There was no luck for the 2nds and 3rds, though, as the suffered away defeats to Hampton-in-Arden and Finchfield respectively.
In Worcestershire Division One, the Ladies 1sts were edged out 2-1 by rivals Bromsgrove.
Laura Brains netted for Spa.
Meanwhile, the Ladies 2nds were thumped 11-0 by University of Birmingham 5ths.
