Spa maintain title pursuit

Droitwich Editorial 12th Aug, 2021   0

WORCESTERSHIRE League Division One frontrunners Droitwich Spa continued their title pursuit with a fine six-wicket win at Worcester Nomads, moving 31 points clear of second-placed Ombersley Seconds.

After fielding first and dismissing the hosts for 132 inside 30 overs, Spa raced to victory inside 23 overs, mainly thanks to opener Max Young’s unbeaten 44.

It was a fine all-round show from the Spa skipper who had struck late in the Nomads innings to take four wickets for just 27 runs.

Before that, his teammates performed admirably to limit Worcester to a 98-5 score, with top-scoring Ollie Ranscombe (43) eventually seen off by Adam Keen (2-34) for the sixth wicket. From there, Young came into the limelight, taking three of the final four wickets.

While his namesake Jake Young (14) was unable to build on a promising start at the crease, Max continued to battle on and eventually found particular success with number five Jez Hanson (23), adding 50 for the fourth wicket.

With victory within touching distance, Callum Turner (5no) helped sweep home the remaining runs required.

Next, Spa welcome basement side Burghill, Tillington and Weobley on Saturday.
