Spa make it a hat-trick of wins

DROITWICH Spa continued their resurgence in form with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Paget Rangers in the Midland Football League Division Two last Saturday.

The visitors, who arrived on of victories over Fairfield Villa and Glades Sporting, got off to the perfect start as Jim Ward and James Lennon struck inside the opening ten minutes.

Paget got one back through substitute Jason Hewitt on the 85th minute to set up a tense finale. But Spa hung on to claim another valuable three points which moved them six points clear of the drop zone.

Wayne Oliver’s side appear to be full of confidence at the moment and they took just one minute to open the scoring against Rangers. Chris Higginson sent in a superb cross following a corner for Ward to simply apply the finishing touch.

This was then followed by a second goal as Worcester City academy ace Lemon netted after some good approach work from Droitwich.

Despite the two early set-backs, Paget were playing the better football as they looked for a way back into the match. They also created several chances in the first half, but Spa were doing enough to keep them at bay.

Paget had the advantage of the wind and the slope in the second period. But it still needed a mistake from Droitwich to get on the score-sheet.

With five minutes remaining, Hewitt exploit a slip up in Spa’s defence to slot the ball past keeper Matt Oliver. This left a nervy final few minutes, but Spa dug deep to see out time.
