A LAST-GASP equaliser from Lucas Edmunds snatched a 3-3 draw for Droitwich Spa against Malvern Town in Thursday night’s friendly.
The third warm-up game of pre-season demonstrated the fighting spirit already present within the Saltmen’s ranks, as they twice recovered from deficits to finish with a respectable draw against higher-level opposition.
Malvern took the lead through Jay Sauntson, who fired home from a corner, with goalkeeper Matt Oliver making a stunning stop prior to the opener.
Matty Hunt levelled shortly after, again from another corner, though Malvern would resume their lead through James Febery before the break.
A sumptuous chip from Kyonn Evans made it 3-1 and seemingly set Malvern up for victory ten minutes into the second half.
But Droitwich did not wilt, and continued hunting for a goal to reduce the deficit.
James Lemon was the man to provide the Saltmen with some hope when finding the net, and he then played a key role in the equaliser.
It was his run into the Malvern penalty area that drew the visiting keeper into making a foul, but Connor Collins lashed the resulting spot-kick wildly over the bar to leave Spa still chasing the game.
Their endeavour to find an equaliser was finally rewarded, when an error by the Malvern keeper gifted Edmunds a simple finish in the final minute of the game.
The Saltmen now gear up for their fourth warm-up fixture on Saturday (3pm), when visiting Hinton from the Herefordshire Football League.
Last time out, Spa were 12-0 winners at King George’s Playing Fields in a friendly in July last year.
