Spa settle for losing draw, but hope for improvement against Belbroughton

DROITWICH Spa fell to a losing draw in Worcestershire League Division One, after failing to match Worcester Nomads’ 228-5 total.

Winning the toss, Spa elected to field, but had to withstand totals from big-hitters Guy Davies (55) and Chris Abell (59, not out), whilst Martyn Davies was the pick of the Spa bowlers, taking 2-48.

Spa slipped to 48-5, with no clear partnerships emerging, and opener Davies being the top-scorer of the opening seven batsmen, hitting 16.

However, with the sixth wicket falling for 63 runs, Matthew Gurr (34) and Jack Eaton (36, not out) got Spa back on track, and were aided by 35 runs from extras.

Spa take seven points home for their efforts despite losing the match, and next visit Belbroughton on Saturday (1pm), who were on the end of a losing draw against Bromyard.

Meanwhile, Spa’s fourth XI start their Division 11 campaign this weekend, visiting Chaddesley Corbett’s third XI.
