Sporting aiming to defend Smedley Cup

BROMSGROVE Sporting will be hoping to make a successful defence of the Smedley Crooke Memorial Charity Cup when they begin their route to the final with a trip to Littleton tomorrow (Saturday).

The first round clash at Five Acres had to be rearranged after the original fixture in early November was postponed. Since then Sporting, who defeated Paget Rangers last year to claim their first piece of silverware, have won their last four league matches to climb to second.

They have featured 20 goals from the Rouslers as they notably recovered from 3-1 down to beat 5-3 Pilkington XXX on New Year’s Day, with Sean Brain bagging a hat-trick.

Their Midland Football League Division One rivals, Littleton, meanwhile, have struggled for form as they have suffered five defeats in their last seven games.

However, their 3-0 victory over Alvis Sporting in The Les James Challenge Cup last Saturday is likely to have given them a much-needed confidence boost ahead of the encounter.
