Struggling Spa end losing streak with draw

DROITWICH Spa ended a run of three straight defeats with a draw against Bedworth at the Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground on Saturday.

However, with the visitors just one place below them in the relegation area, this will be seen as a chance missed for Spa who have not won a Midlands Two West (South) clash in almost two months.

After suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of Barkers’ Butts a week prior, Spa would have been looking to bounce back, but their lack of execution in front of the posts gave Bedworth every opportunity to take advantage.

The hosts were attacking in the correct areas of the pitch and they took the lead when a well-driven lineout resulted in lock Russ Brown going over.

This gave Droitwich a spark which has been missing recently and they extended their advantage. Dave Oliver landed a penalty before captain Luke Topping finished off a well-worked move.

Spa appeared to be in control as they led 13-3 and they would have keen to push on after the break, but due to a lack of discipline and experience in key areas Bedworth fought back.

The away side, who have yet to record a win this season, battled bravely and snatched a draw to leave Droitwich with plenty to ponder as they remain in the bottom three.
