DROITWICH’S Matt Richards won his first-ever medals at the Commonwealth Games after claiming double-relay bronze for Wales.
Richards secured bronze in the 4x100m mixed freestyle relay and 4x200m men’s freestyle relay at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
Richards has now won medals on the Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth stage after his success in the pool at the Glasgow 2026 Games.
The 23-year-old linked up with Dan Jones, Rebecca Sutton and Theodora Taylor to claim mixed freestyle bronze behind England who took silver and Australia who won gold.
Wales clinched bronze in a national record time of 3 minutes 24.33 seconds while Australia set a new Games Record time of 3:19.36 en route to winning gold.
And Richards then joined Jones, Kieran Bird and Tyler Melbourne-Smith to win a second bronze medal in the men’s freestyle relay in a time of 7:09.59.
Wales again finished behind England who claimed silver and Australia who took gold in a Games Record time of 7:01.47.
Richards has now won medals on the Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth stage.
He will race in the men’s 100m freestyle heats at 11.28am on Monday, July 27 and returns to the pool for the 200m freestyle heats on Wednesday, July 29 at 11.02am.
