REBECCA Redfern reclaimed her women’s SB13 100m breaststroke world title with a superb swim at the Para World Championships in Manchester.

Redfern won her second gold medal in the event, after also topping the podium in 2019, following a great battle with USA’s Colleen Young who took silver.

The Droitwich swimmer is now a three-time World Championship medallist after she won bronze at the 2022 edition in Madeira, Portugal.

Redfern told British Swimming: “I couldn’t see the scoreboard so it was only as I came round the corner into media I was told I’d won – what a feeling.

“To be able to win gold is really exciting even if I think I have a faster time in me.

“I’m not the same person I was four years ago when I won my last world title, I think I’ve shown you can go off and live your life and still smash it in the pool.

“My little boy will be here watching later this week so I’ll be sharing this moment with him and no doubt he’ll be wearing this medal as he’s sat in the crowd.”

The 23-year-old returns to the Manchester Aquatics Centre pool alongside brother Matthew in the 4x100m medley relay later this week as she attempts to add to her medal collection.
