Breath-taking Simon and Garfunkel show heading to Droitwich

Droitwich Editorial 1st Apr, 2014 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016

FANS of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel can go along to Droitwich’s Norbury Theatre at 7.30pm next Saturday (April 12) for a special multimedia show dedicated to the American duo.

Bookends, made up of Dan Haynes and Pete Richards, will put on their Simon and Garfunkel – Through the Years which combines live performances of the popular pair’s songs, video footage of the artists talking about their rise to fame and narration about them.

That has been written by Victoria Kingston, the author of Simon and Garfunkel – The Definitive Biography. It was while researching the show, Dan found the book and after contacting Victoria, they found they had a lot in common. They struck up a good friendship and, after being so impressed with Dan and Pete’s recreation of the Americans’ sound, Victoria agreed for words from her book to be used in the show.

Dan and Pete perform the songs with the use of just a single guitar and by blending their two voices.

When the pair started out in 2011, they said they quickly realised dressing up in wigs and putting on fake accents was not the way to go and was more likely to make a mockery of their heroes.

Pete said: “We needed to create something classier with more to offer than a standard tribute act.”

And that is when they created the Through the Years show.

Dan and Pete once flew all the way out to New York to see Simon and Garfunkel in concert only to find out, when they got back, that they were planning a UK tour.

Their stop in Droitwich is part of Bookends’ own UK tour and they have even been booked to perform at this summer’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Tickets for next Saturday’s show are £12 (£10 concessions). To book tickets, visit or call 01905 770154.
