The First Things People Buy if they Win the Lottery

Droitwich Editorial 17th Feb, 2021 Updated: 11th Mar, 2021   0

A question that ordinary people often ask themselves is: what would you do if you won the lottery?

Well, for those who actually win a considerable sum of money, this question becomes very relevant. We are sure everyone has a few items on their “must buy” list. To make your search easier, below we have compiled a list of things most people tend to buy or where they spend their money when they win the lottery.

1.   Property

Property is an excellent investment to make for your future. You might even buy your dream house with your lottery winnings. Denise and Paul Hardware – two lottery winners of 2007 – invested in many properties after winning $5 million. We don’t mean to tell you how to spend your money, but that is a good financial decision.

2.   Travel tickets

Nigel Willets is an excellent example of this sort of spending. Winning £1 million in 2014, he used the money to travel the world. And perhaps this lottery-winner was right. Such money does not come by easy; so make use of your new-found wealth by investing in travel tickets to your favourite countries (once we’re allowed to travel again of course).

3.   Elegant Champagne Set

What better way to welcome your new and grand lifestyle than with a new set of champagne glasses? Mismatched novelty glasses and those plastic party cups, despite their nostalgic charm, just will not do after you have the money to buy something more elegant. The truly old-school hosts tend to select Waterford, which is well known for its drinkware production for over three centuries.

4.   Yacht Float

What better way to show you are rich than invest in pool materials, such as a yacht float? Every pool needs a yacht. You can buy a good one for just about $128 (about £90). This is one of those things you must invest in if you win the lottery. Oh and of course you need a pool to put it in!

5.   Classic 600-Bottle Wine Cellar

If you are a lover of either wine or champagne, then you must know how important it is to have supplies in hand for a spontaneous celebration. For those who enjoy wine, having a free-standing cabinet like this one is worth the investment. It will hold 254 bottles with its shelves in place and up to 600 when the collection starts to grow.

6.   The Oracle Touch Espresso Maker

To spend your windfall of millions, you certainly would have to get up early in the morning. This is where your coffee maker would come in. This fully-automated barista is ready to serve up cafe-quality coffee at home, with just the touch of a mere button. It can also replicate new drinks you might come to develop a taste for as well. At only about $2500 (about £1800), it is a popular investment among those who have lottery winnings.

7.   A Hot Tub

If you can see a pattern with this list, it is that of turning your simple home into a mansion. What better way to do this than to invest in a massive structure like a hot tub? The turbojets it provides have enough current to encourage a challenging swim and something simple like water-jogging. The adjacent hydrotherapy features that some hot tubs offer also have a captain’s seat. If you install such a hot tub on your roof, you have the ideal sport from where you can enjoy not only a hydrotherapy massage but do so while watching landscapers do work in your very own yard.

8.    Grandview Barrel Sauna

A private sauna is barely seen outside countries like Scandinavia. Perhaps this is because people do not have the money to invest in one. Well, with your lottery win, you need not worry about this. Doing all of one’s sweating in public is borderline inelegant, so why not invest in a private sauna? The Grandview Sauna, priced at $5,999, has its standard heater from Finland (can also upgrade to a wood-burning stove). It is made of Nordic spruce and rustic cedar that gives it a grand look indeed.

9.   A New Car

Many people think of upgrading their car when they first win the lottery. This is a great idea, and with the kind of money you are likely to be in possession of, a car brand as expensive as a Mercedes or Ferrari might be well within your reach. So why not just go for it?

10.  Eames’ Lounge Chair and Ottoman

This classic has been admired and in constant production, since it was designed for Herman Miller (1956) by Charles and Ray Eames. It is one of the most known designs of furniture today. For $4 960 (about £3500), the recliner enthusiasts will benefit from such a magnificent piece.

There are numerous other fancy products on the market lottery winners can benefit from. They are practical and worthy of spending the money. We have simply scratched the surface and given you ideas about what people who have previously been lucky enough to be lottery winners have purchased. Do some more research, and you are bound to get some exciting ideas.
