THE SECRET garden at Droitwich’s St Andrews Church will open to residents for a special 1950s-themed Queen’s Platinum Jubilee party.

The event will take place between 2.30pm and 5pm next Sunday, June 5.

The church’s representatives say they are delighted to be opening the ‘secret garden’ at the back of the church and the parish centre for the event.

As well as 1950s music and afternoon teas, there will also be traditional party games.

People who would otherwise be spending next weekend at home watching the celebrations on TV are particularly invited to the bash and they will not miss out as the BBC coverage of the London events will be shown on a big screen during the event.

A church spokesperson said: “Very few people know that there is a beautiful well-kept garden at the back of church.

“Until now access has been difficult for people with mobility problems.

“However, the good news is that due to the wonderful generosity of Droitwich Stairlifts a stairlift has been donated and fitted in time for the Jubilee event, which will mean that everyone will be able to fully enjoy the garden.”

There will be no charge for the event and no need to book, but donations towards church roof repairs will be gratefully received.
