Town's SPArkles WI gives £350 cash boost to Droitwich AED

Droitwich Editorial 6th Jan, 2019   0

MEMBERS of SPArkles WI have presented Drotwich AED with a £356.88 cash boost, following fund-raising events throughout 2018.

Droitwich AED was the group’s Charity of the Year and half of the cash raised at all of last year’s events, which included Salt Fest and a book sale, went to the cause.

Members met to hand over a cheque to Peter Richards from Droitwich AED which was started in 2016 when there were concerns about there only been one fully accessible defibrillator in the whole town.

Now, just over two years on, Droitwich AED has installed more than 35 community AEDs across the town and 12 to other areas.

SPArkles WI president Karen Philpott said: “It’s important defibrillators are as available as possible and that people know where the nearest one is.

“This simple piece of equipment can save lives and SPArkles was happy to support it.”

It comes just days after the Government confirmed basic first aid, CPR and the use of defibrillators would be taught in all of England’s secondary schools by 2020.
