CCTV released after attempted Droitwich handbag snatch

Droitwich Editorial 19th Jun, 2014 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

THESE CCTV pictures have been released of a man the police want to speak to in connection with an attampted handbag snatch on June 9.

The raider tried to steal a purse from an 82-year-old woman while she shopped at the Waitrose in Droitwich between 12.50pm and 1.30pm.

He approached the woman and asked her to pass him a carton of cranberry juice from the shelf.

As she did, he pretended to be indecisive and asked her for a different type and, as she reached for that, she felt movement in her handbag.

When she looked down, she saw his hand rummaging through her bag.

The quick-thinking pensioner grabbed hold of his hand and began screaming and the man, after grappling free, was forced to flee empty-handed.

He was white, 5ft 8ins tall and aged in his 20s or 30s. He had short fair hair, which was slightly ginger, and a ruddy complexion.

He was wearing a red, blue and green short-sleeved shirt.

The man in the image, any witnesses to the incident or anyone with any information should call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
