A HUMAN disco ball is set to run 200km non-stop from Bristol to London to raise money for Bail for Immigration Detainees (BID).

Freya Morgan, from Droitwich and a previous RGS student, aims to raise £120,000 for the charity and will be kitted out in her best disco gear.

As it stands, £120,000 is the amount that would fund the hire of a Legal Manager post at BID for two years.

She said: “Right now, people are being detained in their cells for 22-23 hours a day for over a year.

“Right now, people are being exposed to dangerous diseases – the rare infectious disease Diptheria was recently reported at Manston.

“Right now, anyone can be arrested and detained without trial for an indefinite period in these centres.

“I feel strongly that we need to protect the people detained in these centres.

“This legal representation does not just protect them, it protects human rights for all of us.”

BID provides legal services to the most vulnerable asylum seekers and campaigns for improved detention standards in the UK.

Freya, who is also training s a barrister, will start her run at Clifton Bridge which is one of the leading places for suicides, and finish at Brook House Immigration Removal Centre.

The run will also be in solidarity with those wrongfully detained in the UK and with those who have lost their lives in detention centres- which was one of the main reasons for Freya’s start and finish point.

Freya will start her run in June next year.
