Excitement building for the John Bonham Music Festival

Droitwich Editorial 4th Feb, 2019   0

EXCITEMENT is already building for the second John Bonham Music Festival – and with early bird tickets released it’s a chance for the people of Redditch, Bromsgrove, Rubery, Droitwich and beyond to ensure they get their seats.

This year’s festival follows the incredible success of last year’s inaugural event, which raised £21,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust in the West Midlands.

John Bonham was of course the legendary drummer of multi million album selling rock band Led Zeppelin, a man hailed as the greatest ever rock drummer.

This year’s event will run over two days – Friday and Saturday, September 20 and 21 – with bands playing in local venues on the Friday in addition to Saturday’s Festival Marquee line-up of rock and blues artists and special guests.

As well as celebrating John’s life and achievements, the event will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the release of the groundbreaking Led Zeppelin II album.

Last September’s one day event, held to celebrate John’s 70th birthday and the installation of a bronze memorial in Redditch town centre, attracted visitors from around the world, including the US, Mexico, Australia, France, Italy, Ireland, and from all over the UK.

To date, Led Zeppelin have sold over 300 million albums worldwide. Led Zeppelin II, released in October 1969, knocked The Beatles Abbey Road off the top of the UK Album Charts following a 17 week run, and went on to enjoy 138 weeks on the chart.

Organised by John Bonham Memorial Friends in partnership with Heart of Worcestershire College and the Palace Drum Clinic, the special music event will once again be held in a large festival marquee on the college car park in Peakman Street, Redditch and will again raise vital funds for Teenage Cancer Trust in John’s name.

“The organising team are currently working to make this year’s event even bigger and better than last time,” said event organiser Ros Sidaway.

“The line-up will be revealed over the next few weeks along with other special announcements.

“Fans of Led Zeppelin and rock- blues music will not want to miss out on what will be another terrific occasion.”

A strictly limited number of Earlybird Tickets, priced at £25 (+ £1.50 booking fee), are available via www.JohnBonhamAC.com or from Vintage Trax, Headless Cross, B97 4LH.
