Firefighters being recruited across the county for the first time in a decade

HEREFORD and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) is recruiting full-time firefighters for the first time in almost ten years.

Applications will open next Monday, July 17, and close at midnight on July 28, with the positions open to those who are aged 18 years or over, are eligible to work in the UK, have English and Maths GCSEs grade A*-C and have a valid UK car driving licence.

The service is also recruiting on-call firefighters, who respond to emergencies via an alerter whenever they are needed.

Nathan Travis, a chief fire officer at HWFRS, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to join an exciting organisation that makes a real difference to those in the community.

“Being a firefighter within our service is not just about fighting fires and rescuing people from a range of challenging situations, it’s also about working closely with local communities to provide a growing array of educational and preventative services with partners, such as local schools, the police and NHS.”

Amy Bailey, who started as a firefighter and is now a watch commander, said: “What I really love about the job of a firefighter is the variety, as no two days are ever the same.

“One day you could be saving someone from a road traffic collision and the next you could be working with partner organisations to deliver key safety advice at community safety events.

“Being a firefighter is not just a job, it’s a career.

“There are plenty of opportunities to progress and it’s great to be part of an organisation that makes such a positive impact on the communities of Herefordshire and Worcestershire.”

If 1,000 applications are received before Friday, July 28 the application portal will close earlier, so interested parties are encouraged to apply promptly.
