NEARLY a hundred people came to see the spectacular Droitwich Christmas light switch-on event in Victoria Square on Saturday (November 26).

Festive music, amusement rides, a Community Advent Celebration at St Andrew’s Church, seasonal stalls and a Santa’s Grotto were all part of seasonal activities on the day.

The countdown was initiated by Mayor George Duffy at 6pm and MND warrior and fund-raising champion, ‘Sir John Adams‘ who helped with switching on the lights.

Mayor George Duffy said: “It was a magical event and the nicest part of my year is seeing huge parts of the town come out.

“It is nice seeing everyone and us spending time together.”

Also on stage while the lights were switching on was Droitwich Town Crier, Egar Harwood, Santa and Droitwich Spa High School and Sixth From Head Council who this year had broken records for the most amount of money raised during Charities Week.

The evening also had special performances from the Droitwich Salvation Army Band and i-sing Choir who had the audience tapping their towns to the merry tunes.

The day also marked the launch of the Heritage App at St Richard’s House.

One employee from The Vintage Van, a company also present at the event, said: “It is really nice to be part of the Christmas Lights turn on – we are really feeling the Christmas spirit.”
