West Midlands Railway launches community grants scheme

Droitwich Editorial 28th Aug, 2023   0

COMMUNITIES across the region will be able to bid for up to £10,000 to carry out projects to help transform their areas through a grants scheme by West Midlands Railway (WMR).

The ‘Your Community, Your Fund’ scheme has been funded by the Department for Transport and aims to inspire people to get involved with the railway.

It also looks to support established groups with ideas for worthwhile projects at stations or in communities.

The scheme is now in its third year with previous projects including schemes promoting fitness and wellbeing for rail passengers, installing plaques at stations and promoting and celebrating the region’s musical heritage.

Examples of work achieved through the fund included schemes to try and bring passengers back to the railway in Worcestershire and bought equipment for the Great Malvern brass band.

However, so far no projects have been green-lit in any other parts of Worcestershire.

WMRs community strategy manager Cara Higgs said: “We are excited to once again open our popular ‘Your Community, Your Fund’ scheme for applications from our communities.

“Our communities are the lifeblood of the railway and having already funded dozens of innovative schemes in previous years, we are excited to see what ideas our passengers will come up with.”

Applications must be submitted by September, 14 and all projects must be able to be completed by February 2024.
